I started cooking when I was 9 year’s old. I learned very early that I wanted to become a chef and have my own business. I started cooking at a very young age. My mother had a restaurant and catering business. I assisted her and began running her operations. In April 1999 I ventured out and opened my own restaurant which I operated for 16 and a half years. The experience was amazing!
In 2015 I endured what no mother should have to experience. I lost my only child to gun violence. The tragedy was too overwhelming so I decided to stop my catering/business for to grieve. It was during this time that I wanted to give back so I started a support Group in memory of my son - Gregory. I started helping others by planning events for families who suffered the same loss and began helping them bring other families together. I organized several walks and attended many support group meetings. I eventually ended up investing more time and energy into these supportive functions and found myself cooking for the most of the events. It was then that I realized cooking was my passion and therapy to overcome the pain I tried to suppress but my cooking also brought everyone together to share in our grief. This gave me back my motivation and strength to utilized my passion! I decided to start my business again, however, I had to be creative with my strategy since it was during the Covid pandemic. I started with small date nights in your home which actually went well but it wasn't until I began selling dinners weekly and my business scaled quickly to another level! Clients were so delighted and excited about my cooking that they began posting photos of their meals! Referrals after referrals and eventually back to catering with newfound clientele and followers!
It was through their love and support that Heavenly Taste By Chica is back!
